Red Hat Information Security Sinkhole

The Red Hat Information Risk and Security team prevents systems on our networks from accessing certain domains. We do this in order to protect Red Hat systems and data.

This blocking is achieved by a DNS Sinkhole. A sinkhole redirects certain domains at this internal system rather than allowing connections out to the actual (malicious) system on the Internet.

The Information Risk and Security Team blocks access to domains which:

• are used to host malicious code or are otherwise being used by malicious software. The InfoSec team determines this through its own analysis and/or by utilising a 3rd party denylist of known malicious domains.
• are used by adware, spyware or other software that has not been evaluated by IT or the Information Risk and Security Team and may pose a risk to corporate data.

The InfoSec team will, at the request of the policy owner, disable access to domains which are contrary to Red Hat's polices.

If you feel that a domain has been flagged as malicious, by mistake, then please raise at ticket with the Service Desk, via the IT Support Portal. Please include the following information with these requests:

• the domain (or URL) that is being blocked.
• the business justification for access to the domain.
• the urgency of the request.
